Randy Maple
Randy Maple began acting in the fifth grade and has since never
been far from the stage. After receiving a degree in theology and pursuing
post graduate work in psychology at the University of Oregon, he served
two years in the Army as a drug counselor for returning Vietnam vets.
Randy moved to Sonora in 1979, with his wife of twelve years and their
five-year-old son, beginning a twenty-year career as a counselor for
the California Department of Corrections. He resumed his work on stage
with leading roles at both Sierra Repertory and Stage 3 Theatres, including,
Whose Life is it Anyway, Harvey, The Gift Giver,
The Foreigner, and The Wild Guys. In 1981 he began developing
his one-man show on Mark Twain, which he has since performed throughout
the West Coast region. He has become a scholar of Samuel Clemens: the
man, his humor, and his writing. His narration for a video produced
by the University of California at Berkeley, Mark Twain Project, won
a prestigious award in New York. Now Randy is writing a book on the
mythology of Huckleberry Finn. He says, "While Huckleberry
Finn has long been considered one of the truly great American novels,
few have appreciated the depth of Twains thinking. In this classic,
Twain has endowed mankind with secrets that are still waiting to be
discovered."
